Merzouga, in southeastern Morocco’s Rchidia province, has recently experienced a remarkable transformation due to heavy rainfall with the iconic golden dunes having been reshaped into sparkling lakes, creating a striking visual contrast that enhances the region’s allure.

This new landscape fosters increased biodiversity, attracting migratory birds and local wildlife. Tourists have begun flocking to Merzouga to witness this rare phenomenon, which offers a fresh experience with each visit.

The presence of camels and horses further animated the scenery.

Community activist Mubarak Ousidi noted that these rains have unveiled nature’s beauty in unexpected ways, positively impacting local tourism.
