Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita, criticized today the judges of the European Court of Justice who ruled to annul trade agreements between the European Union and Morocco.
“These judges issued their ruling on the fourth of this month and left their positions on the sixth,” he said during a press conference with the President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, in Rabat,
Bourita said that “the judges of the European Court who made this ruling demonstrated their superficial understanding of the complexities of the Moroccan Sahara issue.”
The Moroccan official asserted that “the European Court’s decision does not concern Morocco and does not affect the Moroccan Sahara file, especially since the matter is dealt with in the frameworks of the Security Council and the United Nations.”
Bourita confirmed that “the reality is that the court’s decision is isolated from the European Commission’s statement and the announcements from European countries, which reached 19,” clarifying that “Morocco is not at all concerned with the court’s ruling, and it is these European countries that issued statements supporting our partnership that should seek solutions and ways to maintain cooperation with Morocco after the ruling.”
