Morocco clinched the bronze medal with a decisive 6-0 victory over Egypt on August 8, showcasing a dominant performance highlighted by goals from Abdessamad Ezzalzouli, Soufiane Rahimi, Bilal El Khannouss, Akram Nakach, and Achraf Hakimi.
The match started with Egypt creating several opportunities. Early on, the Pharaohs nearly scored from a corner kick, with Osama Faisal’s header being saved by Moroccan goalkeeper El Kajoui.
Morocco soon took control, with Rahimi coming close from the penalty spot but being denied. The breakthrough came in the 23rd minute when Ezzalzouli fired a brilliant shot into the top right corner, giving Morocco a 1-0 lead.
Three minutes later, Rahimi extended the lead. Ezzalzouli provided a superb cross, which Rahimi headed into the bottom left corner. This goal marked Rahimi’s seventh in six matches at the 2024 Olympics.
Morocco’s momentum continued into the second half. In the 51st minute, Bilal El Khannouss scored with a spectacular shot from the edge of the penalty area, making it 3-0.
Rahimi added his second goal of the match in the 64th minute, solidifying his status as Morocco’s all-time top scorer at the Olympics with eight goals in six games.
The scoring spree continued with Akram Nakach finding the net in the 73rd minute, assisted by Rahimi. Achraf Hakimi sealed the victory in the 87th minute with a stunning free-kick that sailed into the top left corner, leaving the Egyptian goalkeeper helpless.
Despite a strong start, Egypt struggled to mount a comeback and could not salvage any pride. Morocco’s U23 team displayed their dominance and concluded their Olympic campaign in impressive fashion.
