A photo of a tsunami evacuation route sign in El Jadida has sparked controversy among residents and netizens, raising fears of a potential massive tidal wave hitting the city.

The warning signs are part of a research project by the Chouaib Doukkali University in collaboration with UNESCO, to educate citizens on how to manage tsunami risks in case one occurs.

Chouaib Doukali professor and project coordinator Khalid El Khaldi told SNRTNews that there are no warnings about a potential tsunami in El Jadida, explaining that the city was chosen for this initiative because it is considered most threatened by tsunamis in Morocco.
