Harvesting of the first legal cultivation of the “Beldia” cannabis plant will begin in a few days’ time, while planting of seedlings from imported seeds has already begun, according to a well-informed source contacted by Hespress.
Information obtained by Hespress reveals that around 50% of the authorized area (some 2,500 hectares) has been set aside for this crop. The land will begin to receive seedlings grown in greenhouses from imported seeds in accordance with the legal procedure in force.
At the same time, activities for the second season of legal cannabis production are continuing. To this end, training sessions and workshops have been organized by the National Agency for the Regulation of Cannabis Activities (ANRAC) and the national food safety office (ONSSA), bringing together all parties concerned. These events took place yesterday in Chefchaouen, today in Al Hoceima and next week in Taounate.
The program is aimed at all players and members of processing and production cooperatives, and aims to train and inform them on three main themes. The first concerns the construction of processing units, the second best growing and processing practices known by the acronyms “GACP” (Good Agricultural and Collection Practices) and “GMP” (Good Manufacturing Practices).
The third theme relates to the financing possibilities available to production cooperatives to support their development.
Information obtained by Hespress indicates that the cultivation of over 2,500 hectares is planned for the current season, compared with 286 hectares last year.
In addition, licenses have been granted to 170 cooperatives, compared with just 32 last year, and licenses have been granted for over 2,700 hectares to farmers, compared with just 430 last year.
