The Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development reports that a total of 198 beaches (97% of supervised beaches) are compliant for bathing, compared with just five declared non-compliant.

According to the results of the June 2024 monitoring campaigns made public by the Ministry, which annually publishes the results of bathing water and sand quality monitoring reports, the number of beaches monitored under this program has risen from 79 in 2003 to 196 beaches.

The 2024 report, which covers the year 2023, notes that these tools enable the general public, summer visitors and local authorities to take the necessary measures to improve bathing water quality in the short and medium term, particularly at beaches that have been declared non-compliant.

The Sustainable Development Department has set up three systems to monitor bathing water quality during the current summer season. The first is the online query of bathing water and sand quality monitoring reports at https://labo.environnement.gov.ma.

The Ministry also cites the regular bathing water quality bulletins for all beaches, which are drawn up every 15 days and made available to beach managers via a digital platform so that they can be displayed on the beaches to inform summer visitors and take immediate action in the event of non-compliance.

The third device, adds the press release, consists of the “Iplages” application, downloadable on Android and IOS, to inform the general public in real time, in order to communicate monitoring results on a regular basis and provide all useful information on beaches.

The Ministry invites summer visitors to consult this app or the dedicated website for more instant information on beach (bathing water) quality and compliance for the 2024 summer season.
