Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication Mohammed Mehdi Bensaid presided over the launch ceremony of the first edition of the “Morocco Game Industry Fair” Friday in Rabat.

The first of its kind in Morocco and Africa, the fair highlights with the growing gaming industry in the country, a “fertile” field for a large segment of Moroccan youth, especially regarding video game design and e-sports.

Speaking on the sidelines of the opening ceremony, which was attended by Moroccan ambassadors and political and public figures, the Minister noted that the video game industry has always been a vital element in Morocco, stressing that it remains a different sector from others, as its raw material is rooted in culture and creativity, and is mainly linked to youth.

The Minister highlighted the need to establish an ecosystem and create connections between top Moroccan stars, Moroccan SMEs, and international companies with a presence in Morocco for the gaming sector.

“Numerous international structures are present, and our objective is to attract them to the Kingdom of Morocco to invest and create a positive dynamic so that our top stars can become global players in the future,” said Bensaid.

The Minister stated: “For me, the most important thing is job creation for young Moroccans. It is a challenge for the government. For the remainder of our mandate, we will focus on creating jobs for young people.”

Morocco Gaming Expo’s goal is to promote the gaming industry in Morocco, particularly in Rabat Gaming City, which aims to establish a cluster of national and foreign companies and to become one of the largest hubs in the gaming sector in Africa and the MENA region.
It has around 62 stands that brings together gamers, developers, and businesses.
