Engineering students of the Mohammadia School of Engineers (EMI) unveiled a new project, EPIC, utilizing the power of beeswax to offer eco-friendly alternatives to plastic products and waterproofing solutions.
“In the face of a growing environmental crisis, Morocco produces approximately 1.5 million tons of plastic each year, with a 15% increase over the past five years, while beeswax production has now reached 540 tons per year, a dramatic increase of 150% compared to previous years,” explained the students in a statement.
Using beeswax as the basis for a range of environmentally friendly products, the EPIC project runners are now offering “a range of a sustainable alternative to plastics and other synthetic materials, from soaps to containers and waterproof sprays.”
EPIC products leverage the naturally waterproof and antibacterial properties of beeswax, extending the lifespan of fabrics and items while contributing to pollution reduction, explained the engineering students.
The project extends to a dedicated platform and application, developed to make these alternatives accessible to all.
“The application offers not only a variety of finished products but also a special range designed for people in need.”
The EPIC project aims to contribute to curbing poverty through its social social commitment, “providing opportunities that go beyond mere consumption.”
“The use of local resources such as beeswax helps reduce poverty and promote sustainable practices, offering a more promising future for generations to come.”
