Morocco ranked 55th out of 70 countries in terms of cybersecurity, according to a recent report by MixMode, a leading cybersecurity solutions provider based in California, USA.
The ranking was compiled based on a set of indicators, including the National Cybersecurity Index (NCSI), the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI), the Cyber Exposure Index (CEI), and the Cyber Resilience Index (CRI).
Morocco received an overall score of 61 points, making it the first in North Africa and the third in Africa.
Qatar ranked first in the Middle East and North Africa region and 25th globally, followed by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which came in third in the Arab world and 31st overall with 79 points.
Finland, Norway, and Denmark topped the list of countries least exposed to cyber threats and risks in the world, ranking in the top three. These European countries have advanced cybersecurity infrastructure in place.
The MixMode report, prepared by security experts, ranked Algeria among the 10 countries in the world most exposed to cyber threats, placing it 67th globally.
The document pointed out that this North African country needs to make more efforts to strengthen its cyber defenses.
The list of countries most exposed to cyber threats and risks in the world also included Bolivia, Honduras, Venezuela, Ecuador, Sri Lanka, Panama, and Pakistan.
The report stated that many countries around the world face significant challenges in combating cyber threats, explaining that these threats have become a growing concern for many countries, as cybercriminals launch sophisticated online attacks targeting both organizations and governments.
The document added that traditional security measures often struggle to keep pace with these evolving threats, which range from malware to phishing attacks.
The same source said that policymakers can benefit from the insights gained from comprehensive indicators to formulate strategies to enhance cybersecurity resilience and effectively mitigate risks at the global level.
The report stressed that it is crucial for countries to strengthen their cybersecurity defenses due to the severe consequences of cyberattacks, such as financial losses, reputational damage, service disruptions, and threats to national security.
As technology advances, including artificial intelligence and quantum computing, managing these cyber risks becomes more complex and urgent.
