In an official announcement, the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture (IRCAM) has declared the commencement of applications for the esteemed National Prize of Amazigh Culture for the year 2023.

The National Prize of Amazigh Culture, as revealed by IRCAM, aims to honor individuals or groups not associated with the institute, yet significantly contributing to fields linked with Amazigh heritage. The application deadline has been set for May 30, 2024, according to IRCAM’s press release.

This year’s edition promises the awarding of ten prizes, including the coveted national prize for Amazigh literary creation. This prestigious award, exclusive to compositions written in Tifinagh script, will encompass poetry, narrative works such as short stories, novels, and dramatic texts, along with literature tailored for the younger audience.

Moreover, IRCAM disclosed that several other categories await recognition, spanning from anthropological and sociological studies to linguistic, literary, and artistic endeavors. The prize distribution will also extend to fields of education sciences and computer science, each earmarked for three distinctive awards.

Adding a digital touch, the 2023 edition will introduce the National Prize for Digital Applications and Resources, alongside recognizing excellence in translation from and into Amazigh language, and acknowledging outstanding contributions in information and communication realms, including audiovisual and print media.

Furthermore, the lineup includes the prestigious Amazigh Manuscript Prize, which underscores the importance of preserving traditional written heritage. The National Prize for Amazigh Song is set to celebrate both traditional and modern musical expressions, while the Amazigh Film Prize will commend cinematic achievements in both fictional narratives and documentaries.

The announcement emphasizes that detailed application criteria and procedures for all categories can be found on the IRCAM website, ensuring accessibility for all potential candidates interested in participating.

This initiative by IRCAM stands as a testament to the ongoing efforts to safeguard and celebrate the rich cultural tapestry of the Amazigh heritage, fostering innovation, preservation, and appreciation within and beyond the community.
