Portuguese companies are looking to capitalize on the upcoming 2030 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by Portugal, Spain, and Morocco, to strengthen their presence in the Moroccan market.
The Portuguese Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade (AICEP), a government agency, is organizing two workshops on Thursday and Friday to introduce Portuguese companies to business opportunities in the Kingdom.
This is part of AICEP’s efforts to promote exports and international expansion for Portuguese companies.
The first workshop, to be held in Porto, will focus on the automotive industry market in Morocco. Representatives from Moroccan government agencies and sectoral organizations will be present to provide information to companies interested in learning more about the characteristics of the Moroccan market.
The second workshop, entitled “Going to the Moroccan Market,” will focus on the business environment in the Kingdom.
AICEP stated in a post on its website that “Morocco is working to strengthen its global position and is distinguished from other countries by its political, economic, and social stability, and maintains strong trade relations with all European countries.”
It noted that “the Moroccan market is becoming increasingly important for Portuguese companies given the nature of relations between the two countries and the positive image that Portugal enjoys in the minds of Moroccans.”
The post also noted that “the efforts made by the Moroccan government to attract foreign direct investment have contributed to the positioning of many well-known international economic players in the Kingdom. However, there are also opportunities for Portuguese companies to increase their business in Morocco, particularly in the industrial, textile, and construction materials sectors.”
It is important for these companies to adopt a precise strategy and take into account the recommendations of experts to ensurethe success of their business in this country.
Regarding the automotive industry sector in Morocco, the introductory workshop announcement stated that “one of the strategic objectives of the Kingdom of Morocco in connection with this sector is to achieve a production capacity of one million vehicles by 2025.”
It notes that “despite the presence of strong international competitors in the Moroccan automotive industry market, there are opportunities available in this regard for Portuguese companies.”
In relation to the same topic, the Portuguese newspaper “O Jornal Económico” quoted Filipe Santos Costa, President of AICEP, as saying that “major events, such as the 2030 World Cup, represent a good opportunity for Portuguese companies to expand their business and promote their products and services.”
Costa added that “the expertise and efficiency of Portuguese companies in the construction sector, which includes engineering and architecture, are expected to boost exports of services from these companies to Morocco.”
The 2030 World Cup is expected to bring a significant influx of visitors and investment to Morocco, creating a favorable environment for Portuguese companies to expand their operations in the country.
