Chariot announced Friday the arrival of Stena Forth Drillship, a high-tech vessel operated by Energen that will be used to explore and exploit natural gas in two key offshore licenses off the coast of Larache.

This project is the result of an agreement between Chariot and Energen, which Moroccan authorities approved in December 2023.

The Stena Forth Drillship is crucial to this exploration effort. This state-of-the-art vessel represents the latest technology in deep-sea drilling.

Eirik Reinertsen, Chief Commercial Officer at Stena Drilling said “We are delighted to secure this drilling campaign for the Stena Forth in Morocco. This contract award underscores our strong relationships with our clients, resulting in repeat business for our fleet, and our reputation for delivering safe and efficient drilling operations.”

The deal involves Energean paying $10 million to Chariot to farm-in to two licenses.

Energean now holds a 45% stake in the Lixus license, which contains Anchois, with Chariot retaining 30% and state-owned ONHYM holding the remaining 25%.

In the adjacent Rissana license, Energean and Chariot will each hold 37.5% interests, with ONHYM again on 25%.

This project is expected to significantly enhance Morocco’s domestic gas production, potentially enabling exports for any surplus supply.
