A new paper by The American Reporter highlights the significance of the strengthening ties between Morocco and Spain, emphasizing its potential to serve the American interest in the region.
The report stated that the alliance between Morocco and Spain transcends a regional matter.
It is rather considered a pillar of “global relations that holds significant promise for enhancing American economic interests and supporting geopolitical stability in North Africa and beyond.”
I also noted that the renewed Morocco-Spain rapprochement presents rich potential for American businesses, driven by two key elements.
First, the enhanced regional stability may promote a more secure environment for investments and open up new markets for American exports.
Second, the tripartite collaboration on the 2030 Word Cup offers “a unique opportunity for US companies across various sectors, such as services, technology, and infrastructure, to leverage this global event and to expand their international footprint.”
“The U.S. and Spain’s endorsement of Morocco’s territorial integrity sends a clear message of unity and shared strategic interests,” underscored the report, stating that this alignment is crucial for regional stability, particularly concerning migration matters.
It also fosters “economic prosperity by creating a bulwark against instability and ensuring a more predictable environment for international commerce and development.”
Royal Initiative:
In addition, the report highlighted the royal initiative, which aims at promoting Sahel’s countries’ access to the Atlantic Ocean, stating that it “presents an expanded frontier for trade and investment for American businesses, particularly in sectors like renewable energy, technology, and infrastructure.”
Spanish businesses, on the other hand, are expected to expand their reach through “increased market access and engage in joint ventures and collaborations,” given the geographical proximity and historical ties with Morocco.
The report further explained, “this initiative is not only a strategic move to circumvent the loss of Algerian gas following Spain’s endorsement of Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Sahara, but also a catalyst for infrastructure development along the African coast.”
It added that this initiative is projected to create “ a surge in job opportunities, especially for the youth,” emphasizing that “Morocco’s ambition to forge a new African-Atlantic alliance promises to revolutionize access for Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean and transatlantic markets.”
The Africa Atlantic Initiative marks the beginning of an ambitious investment program centered on the advancement of digital technologies, modern ports, and critical infrastructure, says the report.
It also stated that the anticipated economic ripple effect of these developments is huge as well, with “the potential to generate hundreds of thousands of jobs across the African continent.”
“It is expected to mitigate migration pressures, as secure and sustainable jobs within Africa would diminish the need for individuals” to migrate. It also stressed that “this could help stabilize the flow of illegal migrations from Sub-Saharan Africa.”
The U.S-Morocco trade relationship has seen steady growth with the U.S. exports reaching $2.4 billion in 2021 and imports reaching $1.2 billion.
