A group of twelve Jeffrey Epstein victims filed a lawsuit on Wednesday, alleging that the FBI covered up its failure to investigate the late financier, thereby allowing his sex trafficking operation to persist for more than twenty years.
Using pseudonyms, the victims claimed that despite receiving credible tips as early as 1996 about Epstein’s trafficking activities, the FBI neglected to interview victims or share information with other law enforcement agencies.
The lawsuit stated that although the FBI initiated a probe in 2006, it was terminated two years later after Epstein pleaded guilty to a Florida prostitution charge.
The agency continued to ignore tips until Epstein’s arrest in July 2019, followed by his suicide a month later, the lawsuit said.
The complaint contends that the FBI’s negligence directly contributed to the victims’ continued sexual exploitation, abuse, and trauma.
