Inwi announced a partnership agreement with the Medusa submarine cable systems to enhance trans-Mediterranean connectivity.
The agreement aims to supply and operate fiber optic links within the new Medusa cable, the longest in the Mediterranean region, which stretches from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea.
The cable, which connects Morocco to Southern Europe by bridging Nador and Marseille, aims to tackle the continuous surge in fixed and internet traffic.
Inwi and Medusa affirm that this partnership highlights Inwi’s persistent dedication to delivering innovative and secure solutions tailored to its customers’ diverse requirements, all while contributing to advancing the Moroccan digital ecosystem
Medusa aims to interconnect six South European countries—Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Greece, and Cyprus—with five North African countries—Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt.
It is anticipated to be operational by 2025, initially serving Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Morocco, and Algeria. By 2026, it will extend its reach to Tunisia, Greece, Libya, Cyprus, and Egypt.
Medusa is expected to span an impressive distance exceeding 8,700 kilometers, becoming the longest cable in the Mediterranean Sea.
