A dress worn by Princess Diana, designed by Jacques Azagury, a Jewish Moroccan-born fashion designer set a record as the most expensive item of her clothing sold at auction, fetching $1,148,080, 11 times its estimated value.
The ballerina-length evening dress, worn by the Princess in 1985 and 1986, surpassed the previous record held by her 1991 velvet gown.
The gown was part of Julien’s Auctions’ Hollywood Legends event and drew intense bidding, nearly doubling the previous record set by the sale of her famous black sheep jumper in September.
