Israeli newspaper Haaretz is reporting that Israeli police investigations revealed that an IDF helicopter had shot and killed Nova festival attendees on October 7.
Footage of alleged IDF helicopters have been circulating on social media platform for nearly a week, claiming that Israeli army unites shot at Israelis while responding to the Hamas insurgency.
In its recent report, Haaretz additionally revealed that Hamas was unaware of the festival taking place until stumbling upon it through drones or possibly, parachutes.
Israel is now being accused of killing its own citizens and framing Hamas members for the devastating outcome.
According to Haaretz’ sources, there is a growing assessment inside the security establishment that Hamas chose to visit the location after learning that a large-scale event was happening there, rather than being aware of the Nova festival that was taking place next to Kibbutz Ra’im and premeditating the attack.
An IDF combat helicopter that had flown in from the Ramat David base fired at suspected Hamas members, and may have also struck some of the Israeli partygoers, explained an unmanned police source who was involved in the incident investigation.
Israeli authorities confirmed that 364 Israelis lost their lives at the festival.
In total, there were about 4,400 at the venue and the great majority of them were able to flee, as the celebration was called off 30 minutes before gunfire was heard.
The death toll was initially estimated at 260, but was updated to 364, raising questions on how many Israeli civilians were killed by the IDF.
According to the security officials, reported by the same media, one of the discoveries that support the conclusion that Hamas was unaware of the festival, is that the first Hamas members to arrive on the scene did so from the direction of Route 232, not the Gaza enclosure wall.
Israel said Friday it had revised the death toll of the October 7 down from 1,400 to roughly 1,200 people.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Lior Haiat made the announcement, but did not offer details on the reason for the revised figures.
