The Moroccan Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development granted approval to Chariot Limited, an African-focused energy company, for its Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), according to a press release issued on Tuesday.
This approval specifically pertains to the Anchois gas development project, located offshore Morocco.
“Securing approval of this EIA is a major milestone for Anchois and is the culmination of extensive time and teamwork that has gone into this critical process. This is a key building block for sanctioning the project’s development, alongside other activities such as our partnering process which is close to conclusion,” commented Pierre Raillard, Head of Gaz Business and Morocco Country Director at Chariot.
The EIA process for Anchois lasted for over a 12-month period and encompassed comprehensive onshore and offshore environmental and social baseline surveys, as well as stakeholder engagement and a public enquiry process.
The approved report outlines the essential planning, mitigation, and monitoring measures for the Anchois project’s construction and production.
It also integrates recommendations from the National Environmental Committee. The EIA is valid for five years, highlighted in the press release.
The same report covers all aspects of the Anchois project, including future wells and offshore infrastructure, the onshore Central Facility, and the link to the GME pipeline.
Chariot is a transitional energy company focused on Africa, with three business lines: transitional gas, transitional power, and green hydrogen.
Chariot Transitional Gas is focused on an offshore gas development project with a high value and low risk.
In August, Chariot Limited announced that it had signed a Petroleum Agreement for a new exploration license, Loukos Onshore (“Loukos”), situated on Moroccan shores.
