The coast guard intercepted, on Thursday, 290 km south of Dakhla, a pirogue carrying 274 candidates for irregular migration, including 200 Senegalese, 66 Gambians, 3 from Guinea, 2 Malians, and one Sierra-Leonean, as well as 2 deceased individuals, as per a military source.
Having been at sea off the Senegalese coast for six days, these potential migrants were aiming to reach the Canary Islands, according to the same source.
The rescued individuals received the necessary medical treatment before being transferred to the Royal Gendarmerie for standard administrative procedures. The two deceased bodies will be conveyed to the morgue at Hassan II Hospital in Dakhla, as indicated by the same source.
