L’Boulevard, a music event that had initially been postponed due to the Al Haouz earthquake, will return to Casablanca this November instead of its originally scheduled September date.
The event will begin on November 16 and end on the 19, at its usual R.U.C stadium venue.
In a press release, the organizers said that this would be “a condensed and demanding, precise and eclectic edition, which brings together on the same stage recognized artists and emerging musicians, Moroccan and international, to celebrate music, urban culture, joie de vivre and living together.
Last year, L’Boulevard gave an edition for the books, but not for good reasons.
On its second weekend, the Casa-based event ended with many injured in what seemed like a never-ending night as violence erupted during the rap concert.
L’Boulevard security decided to close all the entries and exits to contain the crowd, which resulted in further disorder, with people stuck alongside their aggressors with nowhere to go.
Social media was ravaged by accounts from attendees, who reported that security was not up to par, adding that the unexpectedly high attendance to the free concert overwhelmed organizers and security personnel.
People reported thefts, sporadic beatings, group fights, and distressing sexual assault allegations, with many calling on authorities to urgently identify perpetrators.
The organizers and police authorities then opened investigations into the claims, with police later on declaring that there were no actual sexual harassment complaints, as opposed to what circulated on socials.
Amid what happened, the minister of youth, culture, and communication, Mehdi Bensaid regretted the tragic events but dismissed the ministry’s responsibility in this regard.
