British rescuers were “deeply moved” to receive a personal letter of thanks from King Mohammed VI for their contribution to the search and rescue efforts following the Al Haouz earthquake, British Ambassador to Morocco, Simon Martin, said on Monday.

“It’s been a truly heartwarming gesture that has touched the hearts of our team because they feel that these personal thanks of His Majesty on behalf of all of the Moroccan people for the support that the British team was able to give to the Moroccan people in their time of great need”, the British diplomat told the press.

“It has been to them a matter of pride to be able to support Morocco’s efforts to rescue and search for survivors in the region”, Martin added.

He said that during their mission in Morocco, British rescuers have been “so impressed by the professionalism, the resilience and the collaboration of their Moroccan counterparts that they have been working alongside and the overall level of collaboration that they have witnessed with Moroccan and international counterparts”.

The British diplomat also said that he was “humbled by the resilience” shown by Moroccan authorities in response to the Al Haouz earthquake, adding that the UK “has been privileged to support the search and rescue efforts that have been carried out with such heroism by Moroccan search and rescue teams”.

The King sent a message of thanks to Russell Gauden, National Coordinator of the UK International Search and Rescue Team, who participated in the rescue efforts following the earthquake that struck the High Atlas region.

In this message, the Sovereign instructed Gauden to convey His sincere thanks and appreciation to the members of the team, who have shown a keen spirit of solidarity to save lives, search for survivors and provide humanitarian aid.
