Spanish authorities began sending teams to participate in the “support and rescue” operation in Morocco following the devastating earthquake that hit late on Friday, September 9.
After Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez affirmed that “Spain stands by the victims of the tragedy of the violent earthquake that struck Morocco,” a team from the Spain Foundation (SAMU) arrived in Morocco from Tarifa through the port of Tangier, consisting of ten members equipped with dogs, on board four ambulances.
A team from the Spanish Civil Protection also arrived from Algeciras through the port of Tangier Med. It consists of four firefighters equipped with four dogs, and they arrived this evening in the city of Marrakesh.
Earlier, on Saturday, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez offered his condolences to the families of the victims of the “tragedy” of the violent earthquake that struck the Al Haouz province and other regions in Morocco.
“I express my full solidarity and support for the people of Morocco after this terrible earthquake,” Sanchez wrote on the “X” platform, adding, “Spain stands with the victims of this tragedy and their families.”
The death toll from the earthquake, which was recorded yesterday evening, Friday, and whose epicenter was located in the Ighil community in Al Haouz Province, rose to 1,305 deaths and 1,832 injuries, including 1,220 serious injuries, according to an updated tally of the Ministry of the Interior up to seven o’clock on Saturday evening.
