Spain’s acting head of government, Pedro Sanchez, has cancelled his participation in the G20 summit in New Delhi, India, after testing positive for Covid, the government announced on Thursday.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has tested positive for COVID-19, the Spanish government said in a statement. “He will not be able to travel to New Delhi,” the statement continued, while reassuring that the Prime Minister, who has previously tested positive for the virus, “is fit and will continue to work at his residence.”
Spain will be represented at the G20 by Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares and Economy Minister Nadia Calviño.
The G20 summit on September 9 and 10 is the next major round of negotiations in a busy calendar of meetings crucial to action against global warming, ahead of the UN climate conference in the United Arab Emirates, which kicks off in November.
