Tanjazz music festival unveils this year's rich program
Sunday 3 September 2023 - 10:17

Tanjazz Festival’s 22nd edition, which will take place from September 22 to 24, has announced a program that navigates between diverse atmospheres, eras, and styles and delivers the festival’s richness, color, and individuality.

Keziah Jones, Roberto Fonseca, Omar Sosa, The Gipsy Kings ft. Nicolas Reyes, Tigran Hamasyan, Mario Biondi, Hamid El Kasri, Hoba Hoba Spirit, as well as newly announced names Kawtar Sadik, Mr ID, and more will perform at the Mediterranean city.

There will be free concerts, brass bands, paid concerts, dance courses, and jam sessions on the schedule.

The line-up for this 22nd edition, with 20 performances from 6 nationalities, shows a wide palette of musical styles: world music, swing, blues, rhythm’n blues, funk, salsa, soul, but also Gnaoua, desert blues, and electro music.

The free programming of the festival will feature “La Fanfare de Tanjazz,” which will begin on Friday, September 22, at 6:00 p.m., with the Lazcar Volcano brass band, singing through the streets of Tangier’s Medina every day, beginning with Bab El Kasbah and passing through the Petit and Grand Socco.

The brass band “Lazcar Volcano” combines traditional melodies with urban insurrection.

With the help of the BMCI Foundation, “La Scène BMCI Publique” promises free concerts in Bab El Marsa.

The Tangier maâlem Abdelmajid Domnati and his company Gnawa Express will kick off the festivities on Friday, September 22. Fadel Lahlou and Jol Pellegrini’s dynamic combo Sound of Mint will then perform a mysterious mix of electro music and African instruments.

The next day, the songs of the desert will reverberate on the BMCI Publique stage, with the Mhamid Band, which harmonizes traditional melodies (such as Guedra, Ahidous, and Rokba) and Sahrawi tales with blues and rock sounds. Then, DJ Kawtar Sadik, who blends Rock, Rap, Electro, Fusion, Arab, and Amazigh sounds will close the night.

The BMCI Publique stage will finish on Sunday, September 24, with a performance by Maâlem Hamid El Kasri, followed by the electro-fusion sounds of Mr ID.

The Socco Alto stage will host Maâlem Hamid El Kasri on Saturday, and Hoba Hoba Spirit on Sunday.

The Palace of Italian Institutions, Tanjazz’s pulsing heart, will open its doors at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 22, and Saturday, September 23.

The event layout has been changed to provide festival-goers with a one-of-a-kind experience.
