David Govrin, former head of the Israeli liaison office in Rabat, has officially returned to his position after being recalled in September 2022 due to allegations of sexual harassment.

Govrin has been cleared of all charges following an investigation in Israel.

Govrin announced his return as the chief of the Israeli liaison office in Rabat on Twitter this weekend, expressing his happiness and determination to strengthen and enhance the ties between the two countries, once again.

“If you can’t speak the truth, don’t applaud for lies. I am delighted to return to my second home, Morocco, to fulfill my noble missions aimed at strengthening and valorizing the links between our two countries,” Govrin wrote in a Twitter post accompanied by a photo of himself smiling alongside his wife.

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs decided on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, to summon Govrin, amidst allegations of sexual harassment, corruption and favoritism.

He was also suspected of allowing an acquaintance to organize diplomatic events despite her not holding any official position within the liaison office.

Govrin had previously denied these accusations on his Twitter account.

Govrin’s return was announced during a press conference held to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Israeli state by Shai Cohen, the head of the Israeli liaison office in Rabat.

Cohen emphasized that the relationship between Morocco and Israel is not dependent on specific individuals but is based on a continuity of diplomatic cooperation.

During Govrin’s absence, Alona Fisher Kamm, former ambassador to Serbia, and Shai Cohen temporarily assumed his responsibilities.

The announcement of his return marks a significant development in the ongoing diplomatic engagement between the two nations.

David Govrin has held various positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs related to the Middle East and has served as Israel’s ambassador to Egypt. He was appointed to his post in Morocco in February 2021 following the resumption of diplomatic relations between Rabat and Tel Aviv.
