On Friday, the France’s national federation for agriculture workers (FNSEA) announced the signing of a framework agreement to “facilitate the recruitment of Moroccan seasonal agricultural workers” to France.
In a statement cited on AFP, the federation announced that this measure will help farmers “meet their needs, as they are currently facing a shortage of candidate field workers.”
The agreement has now been signed with the French Immigration Office (OFII) and the National Agency for the Promotion of Employment and Skills (ANAPEC), to lay “the foundations for a virtuous and responsible approach” to the recruitment process, according to a press release from the organization, details by AFP.
The agreement guarantees recruits “an organized and respectful introduction, integration and return to their home countries.”
OFII Director General, Prefect Didier Leschi, told the news agency that this was “an example of circular immigration, with workers being channelled through temporary residence permits, according to the agricultural production calendar.”
According to AFP, the framework agreement does not commit to a specific number of workers, as the need for Moroccan seasonal workers grows in France.
In 2022, 15,700 seasonal workers came from Morocco to work in France.
The process has become customary between Morocco and Spain, where seasonal workers are often transported to work on Spanish fields.
