Minister of Tourism Fatim-Zahra Ammor revealed that the tourism sector in Morocco demonstrated significant resilience in 2022, welcoming a total of 11 million visitors and marking an 84% recovery compared to pre-crisis levels in 2019.
These figures surpass the global average recovery rate of around 63%. Tourist revenues reached nearly MAD 94 billion, representing a 19% increase compared to 2019.
Since the beginning of 2023, the momentum of Moroccan tourism has continued to strengthen. Between January and May, Morocco received 5.1 million tourists, a 20% increase compared to the same period in 2019.
This influx generated approximately MAD 41 billion in revenue, a 42% rise compared to the same period in 2019. The minister highlighted significant progress in tourism promotion and infrastructure in 2022 and 2023.
The “Morocco, Land of Light” campaign was launched, targeting 20 strategic markets, in addition to partnerships with digital travel agencies aiming to attract an additional 2.8 million tourists during the summer of 2023.
The volume of tourism investments reached MAD 8.9 billion in 2022, demonstrating the confidence of international stakeholders in the Moroccan destination.
This dynamic, according to the minister, was accompanied by the opening of 109 new hotel units, adding nearly 9,541 beds to the total accommodation capacity. Promotion and investment remain the main drivers of the 2023-2026 roadmap for tourism, with several projects launched to enhance tourism offerings and services.
