Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita announced that Morocco is committed to hosting the second Negev summit, stressing the need for an appropriate political context to achieve the desired results of the gathering.

Bourita said, in a joint press interview with his Swiss counterpart Ignazio Cassis, after talks that brought them together today, Friday in Rabat that, “the forum will be held in Morocco in the next political entry.”

He added that the Kingdom considers the Negev Forum a useful framework for regional cooperation, which can lead to many positives, stating that “there are problems in terms of the agenda and the political context that may not allow this meeting to be held in the summer, and may not help activate the expected result from it.”

Bourita explained that “Morocco believes that the Negev Forum bears the idea of dialogue and easing tension,” stressing that the Kingdom is “against all Israeli provocations and unilateral action and everything that radicals from every side, especially the Israelis, do.”

He also stressed that Rabat follows with great concern the disturbing developments in the Palestinian territories, expressing the Kingdom’s condemnation of the recent Israeli attack on the city of Jenin, its full solidarity with the Palestinian people, its rejection of Israeli government decisions regarding settlement, and its satisfaction with the international reactions rejecting settlement.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs said, “Morocco always rejects provocative and unilateral actions that negatively affect peace opportunities and undermine efforts to achieve it,” reaffirming that Morocco believes in dialogue and creating an appropriate atmosphere for negotiation in order to reach a solution for the two states, living side by side, and the establishment of the State of Palestine within the 67 borders, with East Jerusalem as a capital.”
