Moroccan international Yassine Bono emerged as the top contender for the African Footballer of the Year award, following his remarkable performances for both the Moroccan national squad and Sevilla FC.
The Atlas Lion is considered the frontrunner for the upcoming edition of the African Ballon d’Or, having played a significant role in the Atlas Lions’ historic run at the World Cup and Sevilla’s Europa League victory.
Bono was previously honored, last year, with the Zamora trophy for the best goalkeeper in La Liga.
Competing for the African award alongside Bono are Riyad Mahrez, the star player of Manchester City and the Algerian national team, who secured a treble with his team, and Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, who won the Italian league with Napoli.
