Following the conclusion of an investigation into his sexual misconduct, David Govrin, the previous chief of Israel’s diplomatic mission in Morocco, will resume his duties in the coming weeks, according to The Times of Israel.
Govrin had been the subject of accusations of sexual harassment, sexual assault, and alleged irregular decision-making within the Morocco-based liaison office.
In his defense, Govrin claimed that the matter was more a dispute between himself and a security officer at the mission, and describes the accusations as “fabricated.”
The Times of Isreal confirmed the news through an Israeli diplomatic official two days ago, but prior to that, several Israeli media platforms reported on his suspected return at the end of May.
Govrin was replaced in September 2022, after that a Moroccan woman reportedly wrote a letter to the Israeli Foreign Ministry on October 25, 2021, to report the misconduct of the head of the mission.
The sender of the letter attached testimonies from women who are also alleged victims.
Govrin very persistently denied all the allegations, and his lawyer, Dror Matityahu, wrote to the Israeli Foreign Ministry Director General, Alon Ushpiz, to refute the claims, stating that Ran Metzuyanim, the mission’s top security official had fabricated the allegations out of retaliation and was motivated by “hatred and revenge.”
Alona Fisher-Kamm, who took Govrin’s spot as head of the liaison office, announced her emotional departure from Morocco in a heartfelt statement, where she expressed gratitude for her experience in the country.
