Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be returning to the Fast and Furious film franchise, reprising his role as Luke Hobbs, which was first introduced to the franchise in 2011.
On Thursday, the standalone project was unveiled by Universal Pictures Studios. The script for the untitled movie was written by Chris Morgan, a frequent “Fast and Furious” collaborator.
Plot details weren’t immediately available, but according to people involved with the transaction, the new film will serve as a transition between the events of the recently released “Fast X” and the impending “Fast X: Part II,” which is scheduled to arrive in 2025.
Johnson recently made an appearance as Hobbs, a diplomat security service agent, in a “Fast X” credits scene, which hinted at his long-awaited return.
Along with Vin Diesel, the movie’s leading actor, and Samantha Vincent through their One Race Films, Johnson will produce the movie with Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, and Samantha Vincent for their Seven Bucks Productions.
