The 7achak movement, Morocco’s first feminist media fighting period poverty, and Maryam El Mokhtari, a medical school student and content creator, have announced hosting an event on sexual assault prevention, to take place on May 31 at the Vichy Célestin hotel in Bouznika.
This conference will bring together prominent professionals to discuss many elements of sexual assault prevention.
Topics will include education and awareness, access to medical care following sexual assault, and the need to break the silence and foster a culture of victim support, promises the collective in a press release.
This conference aims to accomplish several critical goals: to educate Moroccans on the steps to take after a sexual assault, specifically encouraging them not to wash and to go to the emergency nearest emergency for a rape kit; to encourage victims to report attacks and file complaints with the appropriate authorities; to raise public awareness of the stigma and prejudice surrounding sexual violence in Morocco; and to establish a culture of support.
This event is being held in honor of the 27th annual International Women’s Day of Hygiene, emphasizing the value of sexual assault prevention for the health and well-being of women.
