In a soon-to-be-released documentary titled “For Khadija,” which is dedicated to his mother, the Moroccan rapper Karim Kharbouch, better known by his stage name “French Montana,” shared his success story and described how he became famous in the US after his parents moved there to pursue the American dream.

Montana told CBS News that “It’s just a real immigrant story. I never really seen nobody really make a movie like it.”

“We did not just highlight, you know, the ups, we did not just highlight all the awards. We highlighted that you’re gonna lose more than you’re gonna win in life. And the experience to just keep going, keep going. You know, but they said a lot of things are impossible until a fool came along and did it, you know?” he explained.

In the middle of the 1990s, Montana moved to the Bronx with his parents and younger brother, speaking only Arabic and French. While Montana’s mother was carrying his youngest brother, his father left for Morocco, leaving her to care for the three sons by herself.

Karim Kharbouch then became French Montana as he found his calling in rapping.

He described picking rap as your hobby when you don’t speak English, as being blind and wanting to be like Michelangelo.

The documentary discussed various difficulties the rapper faced, including his lack of citizenship, which prevented him from attending college.
