Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita reaffirmed that the Kingdom of Morocco, whose King Mohammed VI chairs the Jerusalem Committee, strongly condemns a new incursion into the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque by a member of the Israeli government yesterday, adding that these actions “have become provocatively repetitive.”
Bourita made it clear during a joint press conference with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba, following their talks today, Monday in Rabat, that Morocco calls for the immediate cessation of all measures that affect the legal and historical status of the holy city.
The FM added that there is international consensus to reject such actions and violations of occupied Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa embodiment in particular, “because of the consequent fueling of the situation and undermining truce efforts in the occupied Palestinian territories, as well as the negative impact of such actions on all chances of peace in the region.”
He stressed that the Kingdom of Morocco, under the directives of King Mohammed VI, always believes in and clings to the peace option based on the approach of dialogue and negotiation as the only way to reach a final solution to the Palestinian issue through the two-state solution and the establishment of a Palestinian state within the borders of July 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He expressed his hope that these provocations would be stopped given their negative impact “and because they only lead to extremism and violence in the region.”
