Unemployment in Spain has dropped by a total of 73,890 people, numbering 2.78 million, an unseen level since 2008.
According to data provided Thursday by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, with this increase in employment in April, the average number of registered workers reached a new record of 20.6 million.
As for the number of people registered in the offices of the State Public Employment Service (SEPE), it decreased by 73,890 in the month of April, reaching a total of 2,788,370, figures that have not been recorded since 2008, according to the Ministry of Labor.
“These data return us to the scenario of abundance before the financial crisis, with the lowest unemployment records in the historical series,” the department says. In terms of employment numbers, listings increased across all sectors, with services leading the way with 208,302 additional jobs.
By activity, the hotel and restaurant sector was particularly buoyant, with 119,618 additional listings, followed by trade, with 18,713 new jobs. Self-employed workers were also up, with a monthly increase of 12,958.
The Department of Labor notes that in adjusted terms, enrollment rose by 128,824 in April, closing a four-month period in which 420,301 people were enrolled in Social Security, “the best start to the year in the historical series.”
