The Gouda Museum is hosting an exhibition this week honoring first-generation Moroccan immigrants. The exhibition is from the work of Dutch-Moroccan photographer Khalid Amakran.
The “Bnadem” exhibition is based on photographs by Robert de Hartogh, who visited numerous industries in the Netherlands in the 1970s and took portraits of young Moroccan migrant workers.
Father of Khalid Amakran arrived in the Netherlands and eventually joined a shipping business. According to Khalid Amakran, many Dutch citizens of Moroccan descent have had this experience; the Netherlands has remained a place of origin for many Moroccan immigrants.
The exhibition seeks to honor the work done by Moroccans and their contributions to Dutch society.
