The National Initiative for Human Development officially opened on Thursday, a maternity health center in the Zagora province’s Tamkrout and Roha communes.

The National Initiative for Human Development launched the facility, in collaboration with the regional delegation of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and in the presence of Fouad Hajji, the governor of the Zagora region.

The National Initiative for Human Development started this project with a financial investment of 1,150,000 dirhams and as part of its fourth program’s second phase, to support maternal and child health and improve the health services available in the area.

Moreover, the newly built health center will help close the social and geographic gaps in rural areas.

Hassan Ben Taib, the director of the social work division in the Zagora prefecture, told the MAP that the “maternity home” in Tamkrout aims to enhance maternal and child care and make childbirth more accessible in rural areas.

Ben Taib said that the health center’s goals include lowering the death rate and offering maternal and child health assistance to expectant mothers and new mothers.

The regional representative of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection in Zagora also reaffirmed that these health centers would deliver the essential medical services for the benefit of the populace and raise the standard of healthcare provided in the province.

This establishment comes within the framework of collaboration between the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Inclusion, and Family to build and launch numerous housing centers for children including the victims of child abuse, according to Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi during the oral questions session on Monday, April 17, 2023.

The government emphasized the significance of childcare facilities in enhancing the nation’s child population’s wellbeing. Considering the horrible rape incident and the lenient court sentence involving the Tifelt child last month, the ministry suggested during its direction towards a reform of the laws and strategies for coping with abused children.

The minister emphasized in the session the importance of protecting children and upholding their rights, stressing that doing so is a responsibility of the entire country.
