In upcoming weeks, the ‘Keep in Chat’ feature on communications app WhatsApp will be made available to all users internationally.
Keep In Chat, WhatsApp’s newest feature, allows users to preserve messages in a WhatsApp chat for later use.
With the most recent WhatsApp version, users can save an item of media that is about to disappear and afterwards access it whenever they want.
The original sender will be able to see the saved messages in the conversation with a bookmark icon, and the recipient will have access to them under the ‘Kept Messages’ folder.
However, the sender will be alerted before a message can be pinned, and their consent is needed to take this step. The message expires after the predetermined amount of time if approval is not granted.
This requirement complies with WhatsApp policies to protect the sender’s security and privacy. The ‘Keep In Chat’ option does not reverse WhatsApp’s restrictions about disappearing texts.
Consequently, the sender’s privacy and agreement over whether or not their message can be saved will always take priority.
The company introduced the disappearing messages feature in late 2020. Since then, WhatsApp improved the feature by providing the option to make disappearing messages the default setting for all new chats.
Additionally, it offered the capability to specify the time span of messages from 24 hours to 7 days.
