Rabat to host the African Theatre Festival’s first edition
Friday 21 April 2023 - 14:01

The Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication will organize the first African Theatre Festival in Rabat from April 24 to 30, 2023, in partnership with the “Éclats de Lune” collective.

The African Theatre Festival aims to showcase the diversity and wealth of contemporary African theater.

Theater bands from 10 African nations will attend the festival’s initial edition. In addition to Morocco, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Mali, Cameroon, Kenya, Comoros, and Benin will participate in this cultural festival.

The African Theatre Festival draws its inspiration from struggle and tenacity. The festival will honor both male and female directors and performers who have used theater to portray Africa’s present militancy and future aspirations.

The first edition’s program will feature modern African theater pieces brought by international directors and authors.

The festival’s program will include a variety of theatrical productions and round tables that will offer the audience a platform for exchange.

The festival will issue constructive debates and discussions about theater in Africa, in a collective participatory form, in order to rethink festivals in Africa and how to establish dynamics among theater institutes on the African Continent.

Other activities will include trips to theater-related institutions, along with sessions to analyze the numerous professional disciplines associated with theatre and how these disciplines interact.
