Parents in Kenitra are protesting teachings about homosexuality in the local French mission school, Honoré de Balzac, which prompted authorities to initiate an investigation.
According to attorney Abderrahim Jamai, the case dates back to December 2022, when students started asking their parents about certain things, only to find out that the questions were about class discussions about homosexuality and sexual orientation, as well as ideas insulting to Islamic personalities and symbols.
Jamai is the lawyer of two of the complaining parents of children enrolled at the school.
The parents wrote letters to the management of the school, and met with its representatives to implore them to take the necessary actions with the teacher in question.
However, the administration did not take any concrete steps, except promising to “orient the teacher,” which led them to file a judicial complaint.
Jamai stated in a statement to Hespress AR that he has collected statements from the parents of the kids, who expressed their wish to resolve the issue outside of courts, but were compelled to address this formally due to the administration’s lack of real action on the subject.
Police and the Public Prosecution have now begun an investigation, particularly within their jurisdiction due to the alleged defamation of the Islamic religion, and its holy components.
“The indoctrination of information about homosexuality and deviant sexual orientation, and the dissemination of ideas insulting personalities and symbols of Islam, affect the religious belief of the students on the one hand,” the lawyer stated.
