The Intersectoral Professional Association for Electric Mobility (APIME) has announced the deployment of 2,500 new charging stations for electric vehicles by 2026.
These facilities will be installed in major Moroccan cities, including Tangier, Rabat and Casablanca.
Just a few weeks after its creation, the APIME will promote the massive import of electric cars through ensuring charging accessibility.
Created in January 2023, APIME’s ambition is to be the driving force behind the development of electric mobility in Morocco.
Among the first axes of its mission, APIME is working on the launch of a dialogue with public authorities in order to complete the standardization of electric mobility equipment and to examine with the electricity distribution organizations the specifications for the connection of charging facilities.
The APIME is made up of companies from the electricity and automotive sectors, and seeks to make Morocco an exemplary country in terms of ecological mobility in Africa, says Omar Magoul, director of Interworld Africa to Afrik21 outlet.
“As a result, the share of electric vehicles imported into Morocco will increase. This means that car importers have to adapt to the trend and the increased demands for green mobility and energy,” he explained.
This ambition is perfectly consistent with one of the main lines of the National Plan for Electric Mobility, developed by Morocco’s National Office of Water and Electricity (ONEE), which aims to reduce air pollution in a country where, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) based in Paris, France, the transport sector generates 40% of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions.
