Ahmed Jawad, a theater performer, lit himself on fire in front of the Ministry of Culture’s administrative building.

Hespress AR reports that Jawad had previously protested in front of the Ministry of Culture against what he perceives to be marginalization and discrimination.

The artist was transported to Ibn Sina University Hospital in Rabat for medical attention.

The ministry stated in a statement its unequivocal support for the citizen and his family.

The artist managed the Family Club, which entertained a number of intellectuals, while working as an employee of the Mohammed V Theater. Jawad was asked to retire, but he then received a retirement pension that didn’t cover his necessities.

Today, at around 10 in the morning, the theatrical performer poured a combustible liquid into his body and lit his body on fire before passersby interfered to put it out.
