Eight million viewers tuned in to the first episode of drama series L’Maktoub’s second season, according to preliminary data from the specialized center for assessing viewing ratings “Ciaumed.”
A 52% viewership share was attained by the show, which means that half of Moroccans who watched television after Iftar were watching the 2M channel.
Three million Moroccans watched the “Kaina Dorof” series, which airs on the Al Aoula TV channel at the same time as “L’Maktoub,” with a share that didn’t go beyond 20%.
After experiencing tremendous success after the release of its first season during Ramadan last year, “L’Maktoub” caught the public’s attention.
The drama series has the biggest audience in Moroccan television history, with episodes receiving millions of views both on broadcast and on YouTube, despite the harsh criticism it faced for depicting the life of a “Cheikha,” a folkloric dancer.
The director, Alaa Akaaboune, expressed his joy in a statement to Hespress, following the first episode’s success, as he thanked the full crew for their efforts and dedication.
The show‘s cast is a perfect mix between rising stars and already-established names.
In a previous interview with Hespress while the show was still filming in Rabat, the actors teased big changes to look up for this season, as well as the addition of certain characters who shall alter the course of the story.
“L’Maktoub” tells the story of a Moroccan Chikha, who raised her daughter as a single mom. The daughter ends up marrying a rich businessman, who’s the father of two daughters, who expressed their hatred for the new wife as soon as she invaded their universe.
The second season carries on from his tragic death to his wife and newborn child’s lush life, and the endless struggle the Chikha has with his daughters.
