Researchers in Brazil discovered plastics in the geological makeup of the volcanic Trindade Island.
Melted plastic has become intertwined with rocks of the island, which researchers say is evidence of humans’ growing influence over the earth’s geological cycles.
The researchers from the Federal University of Parana ran tests on the rocks and discovered that most of the plastics come from fishing nets, ubiquitous debris on Trindade Islands’ beaches.
