A high-ranking Mauritanian security source announced, Saturday, the killing of 3 prisoners from Al-Qaeda, and the surrender of a fourth one, in a tracking, search and besieging operation in the north of the country.
The source, who preferred to remain anonymous because he was not authorized to speak before a statement from the Ministry of the Interior, said in a statement to the German News Agency, “The search and tracking operation lasted a whole week, during which the prisoners were able to leave the capital, before they were tracked down and trapped in the north of the country.”
These prisoners had managed to escape from a prison in the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, after killing two prison guards and injuring two others.
