Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita, has categorically denied allegations that the Kingdom had donated tanks to Ukraine amidst its conflict with Russia. During a meeting with Austrian Federal Chancellor, Bourita emphasized that “Morocco is not a party to this armed conflict, and has not and will not participate in it in any way.”
Bourita underscored that Morocco will not contribute to the conflict, as it is viewed as an issue that affects international peace and security, with significant economic and social implications. The minister reiterated that when the issue involves principles of international law and the United Nations, Morocco, as a member of the international community, will express its position clearly through affirmative voting, as seen in its vote for a recent resolution that falls within the ambit of international law and legitimacy.
This follows reports from several international agencies and Moroccan websites that Ukraine had acquired Moroccan T-72 tanks to support its frontlines against Russia, which were then picked up by various military-focused websites, and international media outlets such as Newsweek, Süddeutsche Zeitung, and dw.
Bourita’s statement refuted “fabricated and false allegations and media reports” that have attempted to implicate Morocco in a diplomatic and political crisis with Russia. The move represents Morocco’s steadfast commitment to upholding the principles of international law and the United Nations, while maintaining positive neutrality amidst the conflict.
