Spanish human rights organizations are warning against increasing rates of irregular migration coming from Algeria to Spanish shores, specifically the Balearic Islands, near Valencia.
Becoming the main destination for Algerian youth looking for access to European soil, Spanish organization “Caminodo Frontera” warned that irregular migration conditions are worsening.
The nationality of migrants is not limited to Algeria, but also extends to West and Central African countries, as well as the Sahel and beyond the Sahara.
But these regiments, according to the same source, are increasingly choosing Algeria as a key gateway in order to cross to the European Bank, especially after political tension between Madrid and Algiers.
Last year, about 23,000 Algerian migrants arrived on Spanish soil, a significant number that reflects the continuation of an important influx of migrants coming from the North African country,
Data from the Spanish Interior Ministry indicated that the diplomatic disconnect with Algeria contributed to the absence of a clear vision on migration flows.
The ministry said that Algerian authorities did not provide any data on the number of smuggling networks dismantled since the beginning of last year.
