Andrea Riseborough’s best actress Oscar nomination for her role in”To Leslie,” which sparked controversy, will not be overturned, according to the CEO of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.

“The Academy has determined the activity in question does not rise to the level that the film’s nomination should be rescinded,” said the Academy CEO as reported on several U.S. media.

He later added that “However, we did discover social media and outreach campaigning tactics that caused concern. These tactics are being addressed with the responsible parties directly.”

The choice was made during the monthly meeting of the 54-member board of governors of the Academy, which included a top-priority internal evaluation of the Riseborough campaign.

The review started in reaction to the heated discussion and controversy surrounding the unusual campaign that resulted in Riseborough’s unexpected nomination last Tuesday, which caused gasps at the announcement of nominations.

Many people were perplexed by the nomination, wondering how the Michael Morris-directed movie, about a single mother trying to make ends meet after winning the lottery, had gone mostly unnoticed by previous award ceremonies and critics organizations while yet earning a nomination for best actress at the world’s most prestigious film award.

Prior to her nomination, celebrities including Gwyneth Paltrow, Amy Adams, and Minnie Driver publicly supported Riseborough by holding screenings of “To Leslie” or posting messages on social media asking academy members to support them by voting for the talented actress.

Paul Schrader, a renowned screenwriter best known for writing the critically acclaimed screenplay for Martin Scorsese’s “Taxi Driver,” has openly defended Andrea. Schrader posted a picture of Riseborough on Facebook with the message, “She’s got my vote.” “Go ahead, investigate me.”
