Zapatero: Morocco-Spain High Level meeting consolidates new stage between two countries
Tuesday 31 January 2023 - 15:45

The High Level Meeting between Morocco and Spain, to be held in Rabat, will consolidate the new stage established between the two countries since last April, on the occasion of the visit of the president of the Spanish government, Pedro Sanchez to Morocco, at the invitation of King Mohammed VI, said the former president of the Spanish government, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.

”The High Level Meeting will consist in the consolidation of this new stage, the launch of an ambitious program of economic and cultural cooperation and will be an opportunity for the development of sub-Saharan Africa, which is the great challenge and the great commitment”, stressed Zapatero in an interview with MAP.

In this regard, the former president of the Spanish government (2004-2011) emphasized “the essential role of the two Monarchies in the development” of relations between Spain and Morocco, stressing that there is a “very deep brotherhood between the two Monarchies which is always to the benefit of both countries”.

“We are at the time of a clear relaunch of bilateral relations in a positive framework,” said Zapatero, noting that “whenever Morocco and Spain work together, the results are always positive in all areas: immigration, economy, development and progress”.

Thus, he underlined, the results of the consolidation of bilateral relations “benefit Spain, Morocco and the whole of North Africa”.

In this sense, Zapatero noted that “since the adoption of the new roadmap between the two countries, on the occasion of the visit of the president of the government, Pedro Sanchez, to Morocco last April, trade has increased, the prospects are better and illegal immigration, which is a very difficult and hard issue for both countries, is better controlled”.
