German authorities deported Imam Abdellatif Rouali to Morocco in early January, after he was accused of radicalism.
Shortly after the Imam Hassan Iqouioussen case in France, the German Ministry of the Interior confirmed the news, saying that the expulsion procedure took place on January 5.
The same source said that the imam of Moroccan origin was known for his alleged radical positions.
The latter “would have been active since 2008 in the Salafist network “Dawa FFM” established in Frankfurt.
This made him the subject of retaliatory measures from the then Federal Minister of the Interior, Hans-Peter Friedrich back in 2013.
“Sheikh Abdellatif” had appeared at rallies or in videos with other preachers deemed too radical by German authorities.
The imam is also accused of “recruiting Muslim youths in Germany for jihad in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and being associated with names belonging to the so-called Islamic State.”
“He was in contact with the perpetrator of an attack that killed two American soldiers and seriously wounded two others at the Frankfurt airport back in March 2011,” said German media Focus Online.
Although he was suspected of terrorism, the deported imam was cleared following investigations by German authorities.
Abdellatif is the fifth Moroccan imam or religious figure to be deported from Europe to Morocco, after the deportation of an imam and Islamic activists from Spain last October and November, then Moroccan imam Iqouioussen, who was deported by the Belgian authorities last week.
